Ashley Hanson

Oil Paint

Ashley and his family moved to Cornwall in 2005. Before that he had lived in London for 20 years, after graduating with a BA (Hons) Fine Art First Class from Canterbury College of Art. In 1997 he won a Slade School of Art Boise Travel Scholarship to North America, where he made a series of train journeys around the states before painting for two months in a barn in upstate New York, at the home of the sculptor Jon Isherwood.

A renowned colourist and landscape artist whose work has been selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Discerning Eye and the National Open Art Competition.  He has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally and in 2014 was elected a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists.

The Cornish coastal landscape with its beguiling mix of the natural and the man made has provided inspiration for many of Ashley’s paintings.  His striking, multi-layered canvases pulsate with colour and capture the essence of the harbour towns of Cornwall both from the air and on the ground.
