Since graduating in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee in 1971, his atmospheric landscape art has gained him many awards, He moved to London in the 1970s where he taught art, settling later in Devon as Principal Teacher of Art at Plymouth College. Clark got into the quarter final of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year in 2018.
His work since February 2019 has been concerned with exploring a more expressive approach to landscape painting. Working loosely and more intuitively, his marks evoke a greater sense of energy and immediacy.
