He studied for two years at Ipswich School of Art, then made the move to Falmouth School of Art and bought a fifty-foot French trawler on which to live while studying Fine Art. At this time, he fell in with a bunch of boatbuilders where woodwork and printmaking found a natural journey to making woodcut prints and this has developed ever since.

He is inspired by the environment around him, in particular the Cornish landscape and the sea. Sailing, sea-swimming, gardening and the natural world all feed into inspiration for his woodcuts.
