Discover the vibrant world of soft pastels in this relaxed and welcoming 3-hour workshop designed especially for beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills.

Whether you're completely new to art or looking to explore a new medium, this hands-on session will introduce you to the basic techniques of working with soft pastels. You will learn how to build layers of colour, create depth and atmosphere, and develop confidence in handling this wonderfully versatile medium.

Soft pastels are loved by artists for their rich pigments, immediate results, and expressive qualities. Unlike many other art materials, pastels allow you to work directly with pure colour, blending and layering to create everything from delicate transitions to bold, vibrant effects.

During the workshop, Anita will guide you step-by-step through the process of creating your own pastel artwork while sharing tips and techniques that will help you continue your creative journey at home.

All materials, hot drinks and nibbles are provided.

No experience necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go!

Meet Anita Plume

Anita Plume
Anita Plume

Anita has a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art, studied at the St Ives School of Painting and is a member of the St Ives Society of Artists.

Living in the moorland village of St Breward, her inspiration comes from the surrounding countryside, particularly the woods, rivers and streams.

She loves to paint misty winter woods, clearings, secret places, sunlight through the trees, reflections on water and cathedral-like Gunnera plants evoking a feeling of mystery, atmosphere and mood.

Anita paints freely, often using mixed media to add texture. She tries tp create a mythical ethereal image that leads the viewer into a magical land perhaps once visited. Responding to her own experience of a landscape, Anita seeks to capture an intimate sense of place.
