We love to get new work in from our artists and we have some in from Thomas Hjelm.

Thomas was born in Oslo, Norway and for the first few years of his life and then lived in Devon before settling with his family in Cornwall. He has always felt fortunate to live near the sea, and it has further inspired him to explore and create.
Thomas likes to paint with high quality oils due to its texture and richness of colour. He tends to paint in portrait orientation, and prefers to paint on deep edge canvases.
The new pieces we have are all oil on deep canvas in beautiful wooden frames.

This is what Thomas says about his work and influences
"In particular, I am interested in creating art that leaves a thoughtful impact and sense of feeling, simply by the use of evocative colour and imaginative, abstract composition.
Inspired by the Cornish coastal landscape, my artworks often have a sense of calm and remoteness to them, whilst other paintings can appear quite chaotic and turbulent.
In life I think we see a common conflict between influences that either lift us up or bring us down; and for me, quiet and scenic spaces help me feel settled and at peace. When I paint it helps me to feel present, rather than be occupied or distracted by anything else.
My paintings tend to be semi-abstract in composition, and with my Norwegian background I have also been influenced by Scandinavian modernist art "
