We are delighted to be hosting an Art Surgery, an exciting event being run by CAMP , a Contemporay Art network that organises joint exhibitions and meetings for artists.
Art Surgery is free of charge and open to members of both CAMP (@camp_membership) and CKA (@creativekernowassociates). If spaces are available, prospective new CAMP or CKA members are also welcome to attend one free session as a ‘visitor’.
The event provides a supportive, peer-led space where artists of all backgrounds and experiences can share work and get constructive critical feedback, bring a provocation, raise questions or simply network and connect.
When & Where? Bodmin Gallery and Creative Studio, 61 Fore Street, Bodmin, PL31 2JB Saturday 23rd May 2026
Please arrive by 1.45pm to settle in to start promptly at 2pm. The session will run from 2 - 4pm.
What to expect The atmosphere will be informal and welcoming but with a clear structure so everyone gets the most from the afternoon:
15 mins intro
6 x 15 mins slots for people who’ve booked a crit / question / provocation
15 mins group reflection & close
Capacity is limited to around 10 participants (plus facilitators). There are 6 bookable slots on a first-come, first-served basis. A few additional spaces are available for those who’d like to attend without presenting.
About Art SurgeryThink of it like a drop-in doctor’s surgery but for artists! Led by CAMP and CKA members Ruth Bateman and Christina (Tina) Kutter, Art Surgery moves between venues on a 6 to 8 week rolling programme, giving artists across Devon and Cornwall a chance to take part. It’s not practice-limited so whatever your medium or experience, if you want to share work-in-progress, bring a specific question or concern, or would just like to make connections and gain new perspectives, you’re welcome.
This isn’t a group you have to commit to attending regularly - it’s a flexible space to dip in and out of when you need it.
BookingTo book a slot at Art Surgery 5, please contact Ruth: ruthyb23@hotmail.com
Some feedback from previous Art Surgery participants:
“I recently returned to practice and wanted / needed the opportunity to discuss the work and sound it out with other artists”.
“I have felt out on a limb, both geographically and within myself - so it was really helpful to meet the other artists”.
“It was so helpful to look at the work by the other participants, really inspiring. It was also a lovely venue and a great opportunity to meet the gallery owner”.
